David Dahl Fav. Deep Sleeper

March 5, 2018 at 5:18 pm

Last year at this time, all the talk of favorite sleepers was between Andrew Benintendi and David Dahl. While the Red Sox sophomore went on to hit 20 HR and 90 RBI, Dahl was limited to only 63 games played.

For most analysts, Dahl is a high-risk play. His natural ability is there, but at the MLB level it is still to be determined. There are many (obvious) outside factors that can contribute to his success as a top sleeper play this year: 1) Plays in Colorado, 2) In a power lineup surrounded around Blackman, Arenado, Story and LeMahieu.

One year later following a “bust” sleeper season, it seems some are not giving him the sleeper recognition this year which he deserves, which can benefit those who are willing to take a chance on him. With Blackman and Desmond claiming 2 of the 3 OF jobs, Dahl will be battling it out with Parra for the final spot. This is also contributing to his declining ADP.

If he’s not the Opening Day starter, don’t let that scare you from drafting him, especially in keeper leagues. There’s a reason he was drafted 10th overall in 2012. He’ll get his shot this year.

No guarantee the role is his even with Parra out. still needs to beat out Ryan McMahon, too.
